Canadian independent electro house musician Daniel Kim keeps the Holiday tradition, so he has recently published his mash-up of the top pop songs of 2012. The seamless mix called Pop Danthology 2012 features samples, verses, bits and pieces of 55 top pop songs of the passing year and the selection is fairly broad, featuring songs as diverse as  the smashing indie pop hit “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye and Kimbra , Justin Bieber’s teen pop track “Boyfriend” and, of course, the inevitable PSY and his “Gangham Style”, the K-Pop phenomenon that has recently broken every single YouTube record in the website’s history, clocking at 901,719,146 views as of  December 7 2012.

Madonna and PSY on Stage – Sound and Vision of 2012

It took Kim three months to create this 8 minutes long mash-up. In addition to being hits that have made an impact on the passing year’s pop music scene, it was essential that all songs were recorded in the same time signature so the remix would run smoothly and seamlessly, so it took one month until Kim gathered the right songs.

Another month went by  in planning and another one in arranging and mixing, until the final version of Pop Danthology 2012 was published:

So, here it is – the sound of 2012 in 8 minutes. Pop Danthology 2012 received mostly positive online reviews and in addition to being a great work of remixing, it is likely to have some future historic significance – listening to this in 2022 will probably be even more fun than it is now.
