If you have never heard of the Corvette Stingray, you should educate yourself immediately. Only then can you begin to realize the history behind this car. The first Stingray model came out in 1963 and since then it has been a wet dream of many a car lover. This final rendition of the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is a brave move for the company, since they have made some huge changes to the much adored classic. Still, they seem to be good.

It is different. Ok, the front resembles the previous models. The HID headlights look very aggressive and race-ready and the hood air intake seems threatening.

From the side it looks similar as well, but every Corvette lover will notice the back side window. No Stingray ever had one, since the last Corvette with a second side window came out in 1962. The lines and the air intakes at first seem a bit jumbled up, but they fall perfectly into place and make this car look like a Corvette, but also even more aggressive than we were used to.

The back sustained the biggest changes. This looks like no other Corvette, but it resembles the Camaro. At least the rear lights do. So the lights are not round any more, but angular and brought close together and this will probably cause the biggest discontent with the purists. Tail lights were one of the most recognizable features of the Corvettes. This being said, we have to say that they look great, although some will find this change a bit too much.

Finally great materials in the Corvette

The changes of the exterior look great to me, but they are bound to cause some discussions. On the other hand, the interior changes will make everyone happy. This used to be the weakest part of the Corvettes, and they finally modernized it. The terrible plastic materials are discarded and they have made way for leather and carbon fiber, the seats are huge and supportive and there is a great HD LED screen. Finally.

The central console is slightly turned towards the driver and everything in its interior makes the driver feel like a pilot that has been separated from the rest of the world. The interior is very intimate and pleasant with high class materials. You can choose from aluminum, leather and carbon fiber as well as from numerous colors available. This car is finally great looking on the inside, as well as very comfortable.

Oh, the numbers we all like. The engine is a 6.2 l V8 unit that produces 450 hp and the same number of lb-ft of torque. The transmission can be the Hydramatic 6-speed automatic or the 7-speed Tremec manual with RPM matching. The real racing car fans will love the manual option. The Drive Mode Selector allows you to choose from 5 different modes that control 12 different attributes and they can change the driving feel significantly. For example, the ECO mode will shut down four cylinders to make this Corvette as fuel efficient as possible, while the TRACK mode allows you to experience the cornering force that exceeds 1 g and fly from 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds. The exact figures are yet to be released.
Every Corvette has always been a matter of fun over practicality, but after a while they have lost much of their fame. This new Stingray is set to help Chevrolet put the Corvette back to the stars, and from the first look of it, it should be a success.
