Asaf Avidan (Hebrew: אסף אבידן‎) has been a household name in Israel for years before gaining international attention with the release of  ‘One Day / Reckoning Song (Wankelmut Rmx)’ single in June 2012. Originally released as ‘Reckoning Song’ on Asaf Avidan & The Mojos’ 2008 ‘Reckoning’ album, the remixed version produced by German DJ Wankelmut became an instant hit throughout Europe.

Asaf Avidan was born in 1980 in Jerusalem. After the mandatory military service in the Israel Defense Forces, Avidan enrolled the Jerusalem’s Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design and worked as an animator in Tel Aviv for several years. Personal problems lead him to leave the animation job and concentrate on music entirely. His debut EP, the critically and commercially successful Now That You’re Leaving, was released independently in 2006.

During that same year, Avidan assembled the musicians that would become his band, The Mojos. Despite the huge interest of the record companies, the first album of Asaf Avidan & the Mojos called ‘The Reckoning’ was also  released independently, on Avidan’s  Telmavar Records label to a tremendous critical and public acclaim. The 2008 ‘Reckoning’ blended Israeli folk, rock and blues and spawned two hit singles – ‘Reckoning Song’ and ‘Weak’. The album was released in 2008 in Israel and in selected European countries in 2010 through Sony/Columbia.

The band’s second album, the 2009 ‘Poor Boy / Lucky Man’ was released under two different titles and with two different cover designs to even better reception both critically and commercially. Asaf Avidan & the Mojos toured extensively all over the world promoting the album, making a significant worldwide fan base. ‘Poor Boy / Lucky Man’  was released in selected European countries in 2011, two years after its Israeli release.

Asaf Avidan & The Mojos’ third and for the time being last album “Through the Gale” was released in Israel in 201o. The album is a rock opera somewhat inspired by the Odyssey. Asaf Avidan & The Mojos are currently on hiatus as Asaf Avidan is working on his solo projects.
