Although the theme song for the latest James Bond movie ‘Skyfall’ was to be shown publicly for the first time at 0.07 BST on Friday 5 October, the 50th anniversary of the release of the first James Bond movie, ‘Dr. No’, the 1, 45 minutes long snippet of the song leaked online on Monday, hours after Adele officially confirmed that she had recorded the ‘Skyfall’ theme song.

Adele sings the ‘Skyfall’ theme song

The snippet of the song first appeared on Soundcloud and was swiftly deleted. The song then appeared on YouTube, Metacafe and other music and video sharing websites and was also steadily deleted, while many fakes appeared in the same time, making it impossible to hear the original sample, which can be heard here.

The song ‘Skyfall” is written by Paul Epworth and movie composer JAC Redford and has the same classy and epic vibe of the earlier James Bond theme songs. It is particularly reminiscent of  ‘Diamonds are forever’ and ‘Goldfinger’, memorably sung by Dame Shirley Bassey, with a touch of the 21st century music production values.

Adele stated in the press release: “I was a little hesitant at first to be involved with the theme song for ‘Skyfall.’ There’s a lot of instant spotlight and pressure when it comes to a Bond song. But I fell in love with the script and Paul had some great ideas for the track and it ended up being a bit of a no-brainer to do it in the end.”

Skyfall is the 23rd installment of the James Bond movie series and marks the 50th anniversary of the series, as the first movie, “Dr.No’ was released back in 1962. Skyfall was directed by Sam Mendes and written by John Logan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. The cast of the film includes Daniel Craig,  Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe as the newest Bond Girl. Skyfall is set for release in November.
